The Roman Revolution: 1 (The Fall of the Roman Empire)
£11.99It was a time of revolution.
The Roman Revolution describes the little known “crisis of the third century”, and how it led to a revolutionary new Roman Empire. Long before the more famous collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century, in the years between AD 235-275, barbarian invasions, civil war and plague devastated ancient Rome. Out of this ordeal came new leaders, new government, new armies and a new vision of what it was to be Roman. Best remembered today is the rapid rise of Christianity in this period, as Rome’s pagan gods were rejected, and the emperor Constantine converted to this new religion. Less well remembered is the plethora of other changes that conspired to provide an environment well suited to a religious revolution. Drawing on the latest research, Nick Holmes looks for new answers to old questions. He charts the rise of the Roman Republic and the classical Roman Empire, examining the roles played by sheer good luck and the benign climate. For example, he emphasises the unexpected death of Alexander the Great and the subsequent weakness of the Greek successor states as the ideal political environment for Rome’s expansion. But Rome’s good fortune did not last. The rise of Sasanian Persia, the growing strength of the German barbarians, and the brutal effects of the Antonine plague caused the near collapse of the Roman Empire in the third century. Focusing on the reigns of the critically important but under-researched emperors in the third century, such as Aurelian, Diocletian and Constantine, he vividly brings to life how Rome just escaped catastrophe in the third century, and embarked on a journey that would take it into a brave new world – one which provided the foundations for modern Europe and America. This book is the first of a multi-volume series that will chart the full course of the Fall of the Roman Empire from the third century AD to the seventh. The second book, The Fall of Rome, continues the story of Rome’s decline up to the sack of Rome by Alaric the Goth in AD 410. The third book, Rome and Attila, covers the period from AD 410 to the western empire’s final demise in AD 476. Further books will look at the Roman reconquest of Italy and North Africa under the Emperor Justinian in the sixth century, followed by the rise of Islam and the demise of the Eastern Roman Empire in the seventh century. The Complete Books of Enoch (Annotated): 1 Enoch: The Ethiopian Book of Enoch, 2 Enoch: The Book of the Secrets of Enoch, and 3 Enoch: The Hebrew Book of Enoch (Collectors Edition)

Real Magic: Ancient Wisdom, Modern Science, and a Guide to the Secret Power of the Universe: Unlocking Your Natural Psychic Abilities to Create Everyday Miracles
£11.59According to noted scientist and bestselling author of The Conscious Universe, Dean Radin, magic is a natural aspect of reality, and each of us can tap into this power with diligent practice.
But wait, aren’t things like ESP and telepathy just wishful thinking and flights of the imagination? Not according to the author, who worked on the US government’s top secret psychic espionage program known as Stargate. Radin has spent the last forty years conducting controlled experiments that demonstrate that thoughts are things, that we can sense others’ emotions and intentions from a distance, that intuition is more powerful than we thought, and that we can tap into the power of intention (think The Secret, only on a more realistic and scientific level). These dormant powers can help us to lead more interesting and fulfilling lives.
Beginning with a brief history of magic over the centuries (what was called magic two thousand years ago is turning out to be scientific fact today), a review of the scientific evidence for magic, a series of simple but effective magical techniques (the key is mental focus, something elite athletes know a lot about), Radin then offers a vision of a scientifically-informed magic and explains why magic will play a key role in frontiers of science.
Ancient Book of Jubilees
£5.99Mystery Cults in the Ancient World
£14.15Mystery cults are one of the most intriguing areas of Greek and Roman religion. In the nocturnal mysteries at Eleusis, participants dramatically re-enacted the story of Demeter’s loss and recovery of her daughter Persephone; in Bacchic cult, bands of women ran wild in the Greek countryside to honour Dionysus; in the mysteries of Mithras, men came to understand the nature of the universe and their place within it through frightening initiation ceremonies and astrological teachings.
These cults were an important part of life in the ancient Mediterranean world, but their actual practices were shrouded in secrecy, and much of what they were about has remained unclear until now. This is the first book to describe and explain all the major mystery cults of the ancient world, cult by cult, reconstructing the rituals and exploring their origins. It makes plentiful use of artistic and archaeological evidence, as well as ancient literature and epigraphy. Greek painted pottery, Roman frescoes, inscribed gold tablets from Greek and South Italian tombs and the excavated sites of ancient religious sanctuaries all contribute to our understanding of ancient mystery cults. Making use of the most recent work on these cults, the book is also informed by crucial current work on the anthropology and cognitive science of religion.
Not only is this clearly written book a significant contribution to the study of these cults, but it is also accessible to a general readership. More than any other book on ancient religion, it allows the reader to understand what it was like to participate in these life-transforming religious events.
John Peter Edwards –
I didnt have high hopes for this book. But much better than expected. Short, quick to read, guide to paganism.
Honest Reviewer –
If you are new to Paganism, as I am, this book is a good place to start. It is not a taxing read written by an academic, but an accessible introduction penned by an ordinary practitioner. Riley Star describes, or rather narrows down, what Paganism is and what it is not. So as to keep her book simple, she concentrates on just three ‘paths’: Wicca, Druidry and Odinism. She makes it quite clear that Paganism is not as straight-jacketed as many other non-pagan faiths and that the interpretation of it is largely up to the individual – and so something for almost everybody. She does not proselytise or denigrate the major religions; she just opens the eyes of those seeking an alternative. If you connect more with Nature and Spirituality than with Materialism and Selfism, and are ignorant of Paganism, then I suggest you pick up this book.
Gaz –
An interesting book for anyone wanting to know about paganism, it’s origins and beliefs (or lack of). Also for anyone wanting to get closer to nature.
Zoe –
The book is alright for an overview. But the amount of spelling errors is very distracting. Even the cover can’t decide how the author’s surname should be spelt
Nikki Etta –
I highly recommend this book to anyone considering the Pagan path. The dispelling of Pagan myths was a real eye-opener, so too was Star’s Glossary of Terms. Star’s enthusiasm for the subject was infectious and I particularly liked her gentleness and openness about choosing a Pagan path that is right for the individual. A great read and I feel inspired to learn more about living a Pagan pathway.
Ebony 1407 –
Loved the book, but can’t find any information or reference to one of the celtic goddesses mentioned in the book, and typically its one I was interested in researching. Google just has no clue who she is. Apart from that the book was very interesting.

Great intro to the pagan way
This book is an informative introduction into the pagan way of life. As a seeker, any path that brings me closer to my higher self and my purpose is a positive. Thus the addition of this book to my library. Riley does a wonderful job of navigating the history, terminology, rituals and goddesses/gods, without overwhelming the reader. It is a good read and I recommend to anyone curious about paganism.
