From the Author
As East Africa correspondent of The Economist in the early eighties Graham Hancock began to write a series of highly acclaimed books on economics, politics and foreign aid. His life took a whole new turn when he became fascinated by rumours that the Ark of the Covenant is real artefact, hidden somewhere in northern Africa. The story of his detective work, tracking it down to its supposed final resting place became the international bestseller The Sign and the Seal (now in production as a feature film.) More bestsellers in the field of ‘alternative history’ followed, including Fingerprints of the Gods, Keeper of Genesis (the latter co-authored with Robert Bauval) and Heaven’s Mirror. In Supernatural he described his experiences journeying to experiment with hallucinogenic drugs amongst tribes people for whom they represent a gateway into supernatural realms. His ideas on exploring new dimensions in consciousness became the subject of his controversial TED talks. Graham Hancock’s books have been translated into twenty-seven languages and have sold over nine million copies worldwide. His public lectures and broadcasts, including two major TV series for Channel 4, Quest for the Lost Civilisation, and Flooded Kingdoms of the Ice Age, have further established his reputation as an unconventional thinker who raises controversial questions about humanity`s past.
From the Inside Flap
Graham Hancock’s multi-million bestseller Fingerprints of the Gods remains an astonishing, deeply controversial, wide-ranging investigation of the mysteries of our past and the evidence for Earth’s lost civilization. Twenty years on, Hancock returns with the sequel to his seminal work filled with completely new, scientific and archaeological evidence, which has only recently come to light…Near the end of the last Ice Age 12,800 years ago, a giant comet that had entered the solar system from deep space thousands of years earlier, broke into multiple fragments. Some of these struck the Earth causing a global cataclysm on a scale unseen since the extinction of the dinosaurs. At least eight of the fragments hit the North American ice cap, while further fragments hit the northern European ice cap. The impacts, from comet fragments a mile wide approaching at more than 60,000 miles an hour, generated huge amounts of heat which instantly liquidized millions of square kilometers of ice, destabilizing the Earth’s crust and causing the global Deluge that is remembered in myths all around the world. A second series of impacts, equally devastating, causing further cataclysmic flooding, occurred 11,600 years ago, the exact date that Plato gives for the destruction and submergence of Atlantis. The evidence revealed in this book shows beyond reasonable doubt that an advanced civilization that flourished during the Ice Age was destroyed in the global cataclysms between 12,800 and 11,600 years ago. But there were survivors – known to later cultures by names such as ‘the Sages’, ‘the Magicians’, ‘the Shining Ones’, and ‘the Mystery Teachers of Heaven’. They travelled the world in their great ships doing all in their power to keep the spark of civilization burning. They settled at key locations – Gobekli Tepe in Turkey, Baalbek in the Lebanon, Giza in Egypt, ancient Sumer, Mexico, Peru and across the Pacific where a huge pyramid has recently been discovered in Indonesia. Everywhere they went these ‘Magicians of the Gods’ brought with them the memory of a time when mankind had fallen out of harmony with the universe and paid a heavy price. A memory and a warning to the future…For the comet that wrought such destruction between 12,800 and 11,600 years may not be done with us yet. Astronomers believe that a 20-mile wide ‘dark’ fragment of the original giant comet remains hidden within its debris stream and threatens the Earth. An astronomical message encoded at Gobekli Tepe, and in the Sphinx and the pyramids of Egypt, warns that the ‘Great Return’ will occur in our time…

Graham Hancock has done another marvelous job drawing connections among ancient information in a level headed manner, and has presented a brilliantly coherent framework that explains many enigmas. It is sadly unsurprising that the largely conservative and ossified mainstream always puts up heavy resistance to this information; as this is all too often the case to any challenger of the status quo among academia. What we’ve learned from history is that hardly anyone ever learns from history.Resistance to paradigm-shattering information has always occurred, even in the scientific arena. This is, however, only one piece of an incredibly important puzzle that we desperately NEED to figure out.Hancocks notion of a “species with amnesia” is far. far more serious than perhaps even he realized. There is ongoing research, conducted by Tony Wright and others, indicating the development of our neural system is literally compromised and has been progressively reverting to a more primitive type. Hancock is aware and a fan of the research but it gets curiously omitted here, even though it fits in perfectly with his research on psychedelics – one of the main approaches ancient cultures have employed throughout the entire world for millenia in order to address and treat our condition – and because of the obvious gaps it fills in regards to the nature of these “magicians of the gods”…Were they really regarded as nearly having god-like status because of their superior technology, or was there more to it than that? If we take the ancients for their word, then they had cognitive abilities far beyond what even we would consider normal. And we don’t simply have to take their word for it. There is a mountain of evidence for this scenario, which should not come as a surprise since nearly every bright man or women throughout the ages has deemed humanity as being virtually insane. Our culture and civilization is a reflection of our dysfunctional state of mind. The ancients almost universally regarded their ancestors as more advanced, and do not talk about progressive advancements. Is this just because of the shattering effects of the cataclysms at the end of the last ice age, or is there more to it than that? Why then do they also speak of mans nature degrading even before the cataclysm? And why do they even engage in various techniques and medicines to address this condition at all?Our brain is the most complex and chemically sensitive piece of tissue in the known universe. Perhaps it is no coincidence that it evolved in the African tropics, in a symbiotic relationship with one of the most complex biochemical environments on the planet. The food we were eating was intimately involved in the development and operating environment of our brain for millenia. You would not expect to be able to build a working vehicle out of materials completely irrelevant to it’s original design and development specifications. Yet we assume our brain will develop and function normally on literally “junk” food. Why is this simple engineering logic so non-existent in out society?Perhaps we are just so deluded at this point that we are blind to our own condition.Research Tony Wrights book Return to the Brain of Eden. You will not be disappointed. The forward by Dennis McKenna is free for viewing on the website.

Graham is an author with a hands on attitude to his research who utilises data from numerous sources (often compartmentalised areas of study) to form a ‘bigger picture’; thus he is not part of an academic group with dogmatic institutional positions and a vested interest in the status-quo. For those who question current trends and beliefs in archaeology/anthropology, education, history and social and physical environments, and who seek to engender a more open-minded discourse, Hancock’s books are a must. We need investigators operating out of the current academic structure to stimulate controversy and new vantage points of research.Graham writes with ease, universal appeal and with humanistic and scholarly integrity. Catastrophist theories and controversy have been circulating for years and it is vital that this topic is researched by investigators with competence and professionalism. He does not pretend to have all the answers or to state ‘truths’ but instead asks pertinent and timely questions, delving into hidden areas; he also is not afraid to critically analyse his earlier works. My only complaint is that the book ended too soon but this is dictated by ongoing discovery. Magicians of the Gods is 440 pages (not including Appendices) and also has excellent photos, maps and illustrations which I referred to frequently. There has been some talk about his foray into fiction, or accusations of his research being ‘fiction’; however, this ability to straddle both literary streams is an example of the highest sort of creativity and intelligence. Knowing when one writes fiction, verses exploring fact, is a good exercise in critical thinking. Considering some of the ‘fiction’ that currently masquerades as ‘fact’ in our society, people with the ability to write and delineate both with clear intent are invaluable.Exciting times, I am grateful to authors such as Graham who open new doors of analysis. His books, both non-fiction and fiction, are enjoyable and enlightening. I hope Graham remains unfettered in his creative research pursuits and look forward to his next endeavour.

Recommended to read – detailed book with lots of evidences for the hypothesis that our current civilization isnt the first one
It was my first book from Mr. Graham Hancock and many years ago I read lots of books from Mr. Erich von Daeniken making and supporting the hypothesis of ancient astronauts. In general Graham looks into the topic if our civilization is the first one or not and to dig out all possible evidences and to put them on the table to present it to the reader. The book is well written and easy to read. I really enjoyed it and read it within few days of time. From my scientific background the book presents good arguments for the hypothesis though that a few of the many supporting arguments regarding the astrology I dont buy for now but all the other evidences are well described and presented on factual level including discussion of weaknesses. In the same manner Graham picks up the arguments of his opponents and discuss them in an easy to read and to understand way to take the reader with him. All evidences and references to them are well cited and the citations can be independently followed up.Its a really great book and it doesnt require any technical or scientific background and dedicates to the interested reader. Myself I will look now in the other books of Graham to critically check his hypothesis and case. All thumbs up. A really good work and book.

Amazing book.
First I came to know of Graham Hancock from Joe Rogan Podcast. I had gained immense knowledge from Graham Hancock sir. My huge amount of respects to him for the amount of research he had done to write this book. I highly recommend this book for people to know about our forgotten past. The knowledge you gain from this book is immense. I wish him a long healthy life to write many more books like this for years to come.
