A Legendary King
Montezuma—a mythical figure, surrounded by an aura of mystery and power, whose echoes can still be heard today. In this book, you will learn about this king, who was revered as a god rather than a human. Montezuma was also an important politician and strategist for his people, as he quickly sought an alliance with the newcomers: the Europeans.
A Fascinating Society
When the Spaniards landed in the Aztec lands, they were amazed at what this society had reached: advanced trade, the creation of beautiful ornaments, a stratified social life, and a plan to expand the empire.
The Founding of the Golden Empire
From its creation, linked to the legend of the eagle and the snake, to its decline, the Aztec Empire has a lot to tell: a thriving market, an efficient education system, the smart use of local natural resources, battles for power, and bloody religious rituals. All this allowed the Aztecs to develop their power and become really powerful!

The captivating story of the Mexicans’ ancestors
And a journey into the period of colonization!
At the height of the Aztec expansion, the basin on which the empire was built could accommodate more than a million people, an astonishing achievement compared to the rate of growth of the rest of the world in the 1500s.
A thriving economy based on cocoa beans, rapid population growth, and strong mysticism were the elements that characterized one of the most interesting peoples in history.
Discover the wonders of Tenochtitlan, today’s Mexico City, with its towering pyramids and golden temples, as well as the famous commander Montezuma, a regal and mystical figure misrepresented throughout history by the invading Spanish.

As an introduction to the Aztecs, it was easy to read and gave a good explanation of the rise and fall of the empire. I liked that it contextualised the empire in what came before.I had no idea as to the advanced nature of their civilisation

A very detailed account of the early settlement of the land that would later become Mexico. Probably overly detailed for me with the complex tribal names and relationships of the peoples involved.Otherwise a good read, and the free printable PDF ofthe contents an excellent idea. Not as easy to read or rivetting, as the Captivating History e-books hence the 4 stars.

Reads like a 6th grade text book
If you were expecting any level of sophistication in this book you will be disappointed. It has some interesting information but I quickly developed a strong dislike for the disjointed formatting (think frequent random half pages) and I found the prolific use of exclamation points in a non-fiction book to be condescending if not outright juvenile.I would have liked to see specific discussion of the pictured artworks and artefacts; they were often described as something that an untrained eye can’t see or appreciate, which make the pictures seem out of context or even misnamed.I’ll finish the book but will probably give to my son for his 6th grade history project. I won’t buy another one from the “Enthralling History” series.

Good read
I learned a lot and it was an interesting read. A good portion of the word I couldn’t figure out how to pronounce but still a good read.
